For Women’s History Month, we interviewed Cindy Schooler, Senior Vice President of SRS Real Estate Partners and Co-Market Leader for the Orlando and Tampa offices where she is responsible for business development, office and operational oversight, talent recruitment and client retention/needs management in the State of Florida. Here are Cindy’s thoughts on leadership!
1. Who inspires you the most?
My three daughters-in-law…they are all juggling small children (under the age of 3), balancing a relationship with their husbands and navigating the start of their careers. All three are doing it with grace and daily strength. While I too raised 3 children and had a career, I did not have to manage the social media frenzy agenda this generation is faced with. It was a lot easier 30 years ago when our generation’s idea of social media was polaroid pictures!
2. What is your biggest achievement so far (personally or professionally)?
Being married for almost 34 years to my best friend, Rick. While I am proud of my professional accomplishments and the personal friendships I have been blessed with, nothing compares to having a partner in life that supports and encourages you daily to find the things you love to do and do it with passion.
3. What is the best advice you have ever received?
“This too shall pass”. I try not to let the little (and big) things get in the way of enjoying the blessings I have been given. So many people worry about the future or dwell on the past…all we have is the moment we are in right now, so make the best of it.
4. What has been the key to your success?
Try to listen more and speak less. So many times people are only waiting to speak and not really listening to the other person. Once you truly hear what the other person is saying it may change the way you look at the situation. Also, treat everyone with integrity and respect…those two actions are the rock-bed of people wanting to support you and align with your vision.
5. What advice would you give young women about their careers?
Find women (professional and personal) you admire and learn from them. Don’t be afraid to ask questions…knowledge comes to those that ask. Don’t try and do it by yourself…it is a lonely road and is not necessary. If there is a seat at the table save one for another woman…strength comes in numbers.
