No. 2: Rifle Paper Co., 296% growth

My firm’s most memorable “aha” moment: The day we launched our website. We were featured on Design Sponge and had more than 100 orders that first day. We realized we were onto something.

My advice to other entrepreneurs: If you have a good idea, don’t wait until you’re ready to pursue it. You never can be fully prepared for the challenges you face in business, so oftentimes you just need to face them head-on and learn on the job.

Key accomplishments in 2014: Making the Inc. 500 list for the first time

Most difficult challenge in 2014 and what you learned from it: Since we have more than 1,800 SKUs and more than 30 product categories, inventory is quite a challenge. Last year, we refined our inventory processes, learning to keep inventory lean while being nimble enough to fulfill unexpected high volume orders.

Future plans: To push into more lifestyle categories, expand product offerings and potentially add more stores of our own

What are your new products? We’re expanding into the lifestyle category with the debut of a clothing line with Paper Crown, an L.A.-based fashion label founded by Lauren Conrad; and the launch of bags with the iconic bag and accessories company LeSportsac. We also partnered with Puffin Books to release a new illustrated edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland this November in time to commemorate the 150th anniversary.

No. of workers added in the past year? 54

Coolest traditions in your workplace? On Halloween, our team members dress up as Rifle Paper Co. products. It’s fun to see the designs and illustrations come to life in bizarre and amazing ways.

Are you able to hire enough qualified workers to keep up with your growth? We’ve been fortunate to find incredibly talented people and have had success hiring from within as we’ve grown. That being said, certain positions are more difficult to fill than others, and we’re hoping to streamline these processes.

Have you expanded your office in the past year? Yes, we added more warehouse space last year and are solidifying plans for a new distribution and warehouse center.

Most impressive business statistic: We were No. 353 on the Inc. 500 list last year and our sales are up 70 percent compared to last year.
